I AM Noah Mekonen
IT START WITH
An Endless Passion for Music
For Discovery, for People, for Life...
Noah Mekonen, born on April 27, 1997, in Silver Spring, Maryland, is a pioneering singer-songwriter known for his innovative approach to music that transcends traditional genre boundaries. Now performing under his real name, Mekonen has crafted a unique sound that he labels as ‘alternative R&B,’ weaving together global influences with a strong foundation in Ethiopian heritage and contemporary Western music.
Noah’s musical journey began uniquely after moving to Ethiopia following middle school. Isolated in the secluded country side of Addis Ababa, his primary entertainment was music and movies, which became a sanctuary for him and his brothers. This environment, coupled with his discovery of The Weeknd, whose shared Ethiopian background inspired Noah, set the stage for his musical aspirations. Unlike his family of engineers and doctors, Noah’s path veered towards the arts, driven by an intrinsic passion rather than formal training. Starting with simple tools like GarageBand and an iPhone microphone, Noah’s initial foray into music was experimental. His journey took him through various aliases like Jacob Knight and John Castle, under which he released diverse tracks, exploring different genres. However, his significant transition occurred when he decided to incorporate traditional Ethiopian sounds into his work, a decision influenced by conversations with his collaborator Jojo Miller, leading to a project that would define his unique voice in the music industry.Noah’s music is deeply cinematic, drawing from his love for films, video games, and storytelling. He views himself more as a film director than just a musician, aiming to craft songs that tell stories, build worlds, and evoke visual experiences for the listener. His upcoming project, Judah, embodies this vision, blending his dual heritage to create a sound that feels both ancient and modern, nostalgic yet forward-looking.
Mekonen has not only made his mark with over 100,000 streams under his previous alias but has also been recognized by the Songwriters Hall of Fame and is an active member of the Songwriters Guild of America and the American Federation of Musicians. His advocacy for fair trade music underscores his commitment to the industry’s integrity. Noah’s goal extends beyond personal success; he aspires to be a beacon for those who feel like outcasts, offering a narrative of self-discovery, embracing one’s identity, and the transformative power of music.
With Judah set for release 2025, Noah Mekonen continues to push musical boundaries, aiming to inspire and resonate with a global audience. His work promises not just entertainment but a journey of introspection, cultural exploration, and emotional depth, making him a true artist of his time.
